Gospel of the day (Gv 3,7-15) (reflection by Don Luigi Maria Epicoco)
Jesus wants Nicodemus to understand that believing in God is not first and foremost believing in the absurd, but believing in the reality that surrounds us and realizing that there is much more.
But our problem is staying grounded in the reality that surrounds us.
We prefer our head to reality and so we don't even understand God.
Believing means learning to open your eyes and not close them.
Perché solo ad occhi aperti nasce in noi l’intuizione che c’è molto di più di quanto noi riusciamo a toccare, a vedere a immaginare.
Solo così si intuisce la vita guardando Gesù crocifisso su una croce.
È paradossale, ma la più grande esperienza di vita spirituale si manifesta sempre come un sano realismo capace di portarci al cuore delle cose.
È il realismo della croce.

Jesus tells Nicodemus that to “see the kingdom of God” one must “be born from above”.
It's not about starting to be born all over again, to repeat our coming into the world.
This life is precious in the eyes of God: identifies us as creatures loved by Him with tenderness.
The “birth from above”, which allows us to “enter” the kingdom of God, it is a generation in the Spirit, un passaggio tra le acque verso la terra promessa di una creazione riconciliata con l’amore di Dio.
È una rinascita dall’alto, with the grace of God.
La fede, che accoglie l’annuncio evangelico del regno di Dio al quale siamo destinati, ha un primo effetto straordinario, dice Gesù.
Essa consente di “vedere” il regno di Dio.
Noi diventiamo capaci di vedere realmente i molti segni di approssimazione della nostra speranza di compimento per ciò che, nella nostra vita, porta il segno della destinazione per l’eternità di Dio.

(..)And then there is Thomas. I would say that the time is over for pointing him out as a second-class apostle just because he doesn't believe his friends who saw Jesus before him..
First of all, it should be noted that eight days earlier Tommaso was not there, he is not locked in together with them.
Tommaso has the courage to enter and exit that house.
A courage and freedom that arise from the need to seek the Lord, fuori.
Ecco perché non si fida delle parole degli amici apostoli: se davvero hanno incontrato il Maestro otto giorni fa, come mai se ne stanno ancora chiusi dentro e non hanno cambiato la loro vita?
E noi siamo Tommaso o siamo il resto degli Apostoli?
Siamo come Tommaso che ricerca appassionatamente Gesù, che chiede di poter vedere e toccare le sue piaghe, le ferite dell’umanità, per lasciarsi cambiare la vita; o siamo come gli Apostoli sedentari che incontrano Gesù ogni otto giorni (ogni domenica a Messa), ma poi niente cambia nella loro vita?
