Gospel of the Day (Mt 5,13-16) (reflection by Don Ivan Licinio)
In the old rite of Baptism, salt was used, symbol of wisdom, but also a sign that from that day onwards we received the task of giving flavor to life by becoming men and women capable of bringing God into the world.
There always come some dull moments in life, periods during which we lose the pleasure of doing things or do not know how to give flavor to our relationships.
In questi momenti insipidi dobbiamo attraversarli con la forza della fede (..) ma quanto è difficile! (..)
Se riusciamo ad incarnare il Vangelo dando sapore ai nostri gesti quotidiani, diventiamo luce e sale della terra.
Tutti noi, possiamo essere testimoni della gioia del Vangelo a partire dalle piccole cose, senza esagerare.
Infatti, basta un pizzico di sale per dare sapore, al contrario, se esagerassimo, si rovinerebbe tutto.
Sbaglia chi pensa di dover trasformare tutta la realtà in sale!
Non importa il numero dei cristiani che riempiono le nostre chiese ma quanti, mescolandosi con il mondo, sono capaci di una testimonianza credibile.

On the mountain, Christ delivers the new law to his disciples, the one written in the hearts, no longer on the stone: it is a law that renews our life and makes it good, even when it seems failed and miserable to the world.
These Beatitudes remain a paradox only for those who believe that God is different from how Christ reveals him.
Who expects that bullies will always be masters on earth, rimane sorpreso dalle parole del Signore.
Chi si abitua a pensare che la felicità appartenga ai ricchi, potrebbe credere che Gesù sia un illuso.
E invece l’illusione sta proprio nella mancanza di fede verso Cristo: Egli è il povero che condivide con tutti la sua vita, il mite che persevera nel dolore, l’operatore di pace perseguitato fino alla morte in croce.
È così che Gesù illumina il senso della storia: non quella scritta dai vincitori, ma quella che Dio compie salvando gli oppressi.
